Slave Resistance in Puerto Rico

Slaves in Puerto Rico were rebellious and fought back against slavery in many ways. Slaves actions in Puerto Rico were really unjustified "Africans taking up arm against white, even if the aggression were justified,would, if he was a slave, be executed". This shows that Puerto Rico slaves that used violence, even if it was justified, would be killed and were treated unfairly. But this didn't stop the slaves from fighting against slavery. This caused there owners to fear them. "Puerto Rican slave owners were frightened of their slaves." This show how Puerto Rico slaves were not afraid to fight for there freedom and did everything they could to fight against the system.

Inequality in Puerto Rico today

In present-day Puerto Rico, There is alot of inequality when it come's to federal benefits and programs. There are at least 40 federal programs that either don't include Puerto Rico at all, pay less to Puerto Rico. Arguements have been made that Puerto Rico doesn't deserve equal federal benefits. There for If Puerto Rico was to become independent, They could get even less funding. This really shows how much Puerto Rico needs help to support there people and to continue building homes for new comers.

Slavery in Puerto Rico

Slavery in Puerto Rico wasn't as harsh and brutal than in other places in that time, But still brutal. the slaves worked in gold mines and ginger fields. They lived with their owners and families. For the slave owners to show owner ship of the slaves, they branded them with hot metal on there forehead (Dawkins). They were also forced to abandon their beliefs and to convert over to Catholicism. Slavery in Puerto Rico wasn't harsh as it was in Brazil,For example, When slaves were being transported, They were treated poorly  and didn't get enough food to survive. They also didn't get any water. In Puerto Rico, They lived with there owners and families and were able to own a little piece of land to grow produce.
